A Harvest of Vintage Wisconsin
Anthology of Wisconsin essays in Memory of Jerry Apps
In loving memory of legendary author and mentor, Wisconsin’s own Jerry Apps, the Wisconsin Writers Association held a contest to collect the best of Wisconsin stories. The contest was judged by Jerry’s daughter, Susan Apps-Bodilly, and this anthology comprises about half the total entries. It shares the heart of Wisconsin family traditions, from opening the summer cabin on the lake to sharing the work on its dairy farms; from fishing and hunting its lakes and forests to persevering through the hard times of Prohibition and the Great Depression. You’ll experience the fine art of smelting a river in the spring, making cheese in America’s Dairyland and reminiscing about the restaurants, buildings, and the immigrants from Europe who came here seeking a better way of life.
Wisconsin’s pride of place, its longstanding environmental consciousness, and its symbols of nature and history like Old Abe the war eagle are all here in this volume of A Harvest of Vintage Wisconsin.
21 stories by Patrick Ritter, Jim Landwehr, Lisa Lickel. Genevieve Weston, AjTony Perkins, Jacqueline Kido, Mary J.
